There has been a long tradition of singing at St. Mary’s Church. The current choir began in 1988 under the baton of Mr.T. G. Walker (Gordon) and taken over in 2006 by Mr. T. Devine, the current organist. The choir plays an important part in the weekly celebration of the Mass, singing a variety of Mass settings, motets and religious songs in different styles, from plainsong to modern settings. At Christmas and Easter the choir plays an important role, enhancing the realisation of the religious services.

“Qui cantat, bis orat” -St Augustine. “He who sings, prays twice”.

The choir, though small in number, sing to a good standard in unison, two part, and the more familiar four part S.A.T.B. Anyone who enjoys singing is welcome to join us at rehearsals on Wednesday evenings starting at 6.30 and lasting approximately 40 minutes. The quality of your voice is not important and no previous experience is necessary (we can work miracles!).
